Sable Island Photo Tour

$2075.00 + HST per person (maximum 4 guests per tour)

2018 Dates Coming Soon

Only a fortunate few have visited, but for most of us, Sable Island has been a remote dreamscape. Which is why we're excited to be working with Parks Canada in organizing a one day photography tour to Sable Island.

There is no need to exaggerate. This will be a once in a lifetime experience to photograph and explore one of the most magical places in North AmericaWith only 4 spots available, our small group will be led by Geordie Mott, a professional photographer, tour director and the owner of Picture Perfect Tours who has a historical connection to Sable Island.

"I am personally over the moon about this because my family is from Sable Island. My great grandfather met my great grandmother on the island back in 1913. William Mott was a lifesaver stationed by the province while my great grandmother Muriel was the daughter of the Superintendent Joseph Blakeney and she taught school on the island. I have her old photo album from their time on the island, and the remote majesty of Sable has always held a unique place in our family history!"

Geordie is on hand to organize the tour, ensure everyone's safety and maintain environmental standards, provide logistics, deliver a gourmet picnic along with beverages and more. Foremost though, he is a professional photographer with over 20 years of experience, he will be there to provide photography instruction and camera insights to make the most of your memories from this incredible opportunity.

THIS WAS AN AMAZING ADVENTURE - "Sable island is a difficult place to get to on a good day! Geordie was a top notch host and i felt he prepared me well for what to expect and I was wanting for nothing on the journey. We even had an award winning lunch out on the island!" - Briannacorrscott (Oct '17)

Between the wild horses, the world's largest colony of grey seals, the shifting dunes, unique bird species and remote coastal vistas - there is so much to capture on such a spectacular day trip. This ribbon of sand perched precariously 300 km out in the north Atlantic is also an archeological treasure where the shifting sands reveal and conceal the worn remnants of over 500 years of habitation. With help from the NS Archives we will also be showcasing archival imagery from the island's past to compare to present day life on the island.

We will be working with Sable Aviation as our air partner in flying the into the middle of the north Atlantic before landing directly on the beach at low tide. We will have approximately 8 hours on the island with up to 3 hours of flight travel. Parks Canada staff will be there to greet us after our beach landing and will transport us back to the Main Station - the hub of research on Sable Island.

There is a maximum of 4 spaces for this tour and the cost for this absolutely unique day is $2075.00 per person + HST and includes:

  • - A one day visit to Nova Scotia's 'Graveyard Of The Atlantic'
  • - View the wild horses of Sable Island
  • - Photograph the world's largest colony of grey seals
  • - All entry & park fees
  • - Return charter flight to Sable Island
  • - Transfers from downtown to Halifax Stanfield International Airport
  • - Gourmet picnic lunch from a renown local chef
  • - Beverages and snacks provided
  • - Photography instruction & insights to make the most of your images
  • - Archival print of Sable Island from Muriel Blakeney’s collection
  • - One year membership to Friends Of Sable Island

Sometimes the most memorable experiences in life are also the most difficult - and this tour is no different. This journey is only for those who can appreciate the complex logistics and difficulties involved. It is important to know that this is the height of hurricane season on Sable Island. *Weather conditions may prevent our charter flight from taking off at all*

Guests must also be in great physical shape. This will be a full day of hiking in sand which can be exhausting, especially while carrying camera gear and participants must be up for the challenge. If the weather cooperates for our flight, we still must prepare for unpredictable weather on a remote island in the middle of the north Atlantic and everyone must dress appropriately. We will have a group meeting in person before the tour to go over the recommendations from Parks Canada to help make the most of our excursion.
