Frequently Asked Questions:

What is a Picture Perfect Tour ?

On a Picture Perfect Tour you will see less, but you will learn and do so much more! We believe in providing you the time to properly explore and photograph the amazing spots we visit. Our tours are at heart a walk and drive excursion with a local Halifax photographer who will provide you with travel-focused photography insights. We share with some of our favourite stories about the historic Maritime locations we visit and showcase archival imagery of our old port town. We take you off the beaten path to great vantage points while incorporating special events and local festivals  to make the most of your snapshots and experience Halifax like a local.

At the end of our tour you will come away with great snapshots of Halifax and the coast, candid shots from us of you and your friends exploring the city, you will have learned a little more about your camera or digital device, you will have not only heard - but will have seen - some of the stories from our colourful past, and everyone receives a takeaway set of commemorative custom postcards from Picture Perfect Tours. We guarantee you'll have a great day with us and you'll have the pictures to prove it!

I have mobility issues, are these tours physically demanding ?

In order to make the most of the tour sites we visit and get the best images, all of our excursions require a broad range of mobility. This may require guests to walk lengthy distances, hike over uneven or slippery terrain, climb numerous flights of stairs, and be able to enter and exit our Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van which has a high step. If you have any joint or mobility issues, breathing difficulties, a troublesome back, or you know you are pregnant then this might not be the right tour for you.

Do I need to know how to take photos ?

Our tours are for everyone - no matter your camera or skill level. Even if you just bring your smart phone or tablet we can share with you tips, tricks and apps to take great images with your digital device. All of our excursions our designed to keep everyone entertained - all you need is your imagination, cameras are not necessary for exploring, learning and having and outstanding day with us! Our journeys our unique because you have more time to explore and learn about the fascinating places we visit off the beaten path. If you enjoy seeing less but learning more then you have come to the right place. This sort of philosophy lends itself to photographers but can be enjoyed by everyone.

In a worst case scenario and we do encounter a major weather event that makes a tour unsafe or miserable, then we will issue you a full refund or a credit for another tour.

Clothing:

Considering we are right on the edge of the North Atlantic the weather can change fast. We will take steps to minimize the effects of bad weather but it helps to have layers of clothing that you feel comfortable bringing. It always helps to check an updated Halifax Weather Forecast before venturing out and then dress appropriately for the weather, as we will be outside on the edge of the North Atlantic for the most part.

Footwear:

Keep in mind that while we do have vehicle transportation, there will still be a fair amount of walking involved during your tour. We ask that you wear proper footwear that will allow to climb our steep city streets or venture off the beaten path into some wooded areas. No sandals or open-toed footwear please.

Where do we meet to start our tour ?

We usually try to pick you up from your hotel or we can organize a meeting point that suits you. Our usual meeting point for a Picture Perfect Tour is at the Sackville Landing right beside the famous Wave sculpture on the Halifax waterfront at 1655 Lower Water St, B3J 3P6. We will meet on the boardwalk right across from the Visitor Information Centre and we’ll have a bright blue umbrella that you can’t miss.

What if I don’t have a fancy camera ?

No need, we probably use our smartphones more then our larger cameras these days. In case you want to try out a camera, we have Nikon D7100 or 700 DSLR cameras and gear to rent*. Just bring your own SD card to record the images and take them home with you. We also have SD cards to sell for $10 if you don’t have one or I forgot yours at home.

*Cameras with an assortment of lenses and flash are available to rent for $50. Although, you will be responsible for any damages that may occur to any rented equipment during your photo tour.

What should I bring ?

Just your enthusiasm! Keep an eye on the weather beforehand and remember we will be outside somewhat. We do not provide food on the tour but there is always ample opportunity to grab a quick snack if need be or a bathroom break if need be. We provide refreshments such as: bottled water, juice and pop as we go.

In terms of photography gear, we have professional quality lens cleaner cloths to share. If your photo tour is taking place in the evening, a tripod would be useful. Tripods are available for rent for $10 - just let us know in advance! We have a supply of memory cards for your digital device to purchase if you need one.

Can we stop for food along the way ?

Absolutely! We can stop to grab something quick to eat during the tour (not included). You are recommended to bring cash for some places out of the way that do not accept credit or debit cards.

Where can I see some of the images from our tour ?

Our guides will be snapping candid shots during your photo tour, in addition to providing a visual history tour and providing some compelling photo techniques. You can find these images uploaded within a couple of days on our social media links.
